What you will make:

A sticker and a rectangular strip of paper or cardstock are all it takes to make these unique bifold tags. These gift tags are quick and easy to make, while allowing for your creativity. There's plenty of room inside the tag to add a special message or even a photograph. Make the tag coordinate with a gift by cutting a motif from wrapping paper instead of using a sticker.

How to Make French Door Sticker Gift Tags

Read all of the steps before starting.
Step 1: Choose a Pattern and Print It

Choose the size of gift tag you want to make. Print the selected pattern on paper or cardstock, white or colored. The French door gift tags are offered in three finished sizes: 2" (50 mm), 2½" (65 mm) and 3" (75 mm). The printable stickers fit on the 2½" and 3" tags.

Patterns are Adobe PDF files. The Adobe Reader is available for free.

All of Aunt Annie's Crafts project patterns are designed to be printed on standard letter-size paper (8.5"x11" or A4). When printing from Adobe Reader, you may need to select "Auto-Rotate and Center" or "Choose paper source by PDF page size" to ensure the best fit.

Step 2: Cut Tags
Cut out strip for tag

Cut each tag strip on its black rectangular outline. The tag strip is three times as long as it is wide, and will be folded in thirds.

Tip: With straight cuts and square corners, the tags will fit together better.

Step 3: Score (optional)
Score dashed lines

If you are making cardstock gift tags, score the tag strip on the four dashed lines. Crease each scored line and unfold.

Step 4: Fold
Fold back on dashed lines

Fold the strip in thirds by folding over on the two inner fold lines. Make a bifold on each side by folding back on the other two fold lines.

Tip: To hide the printer marks, turn the strip with the marks facing down prior to doing the folds.

Step 5: Decorate
Decorate inside tag

Decorate the inside of the tag any way you like. You might write a message on the inside, glue a picture in the center, or stamp it with rubber stamps. On dark-colored cardstock or paper, glue a white paper square to the tag's inside, then write your message.

Step 6: Apply Sticker
Apply sticker

Put a sticker on the folded tag. Hold the corners of the tag with the fingers on one hand while applying the sticker with the other hand. Rub your fingers or a brayer over the surface of the sticker to ensure the adhesive hold.

Tip: Instead of a sticker, cut motifs from wrapping paper and glue in place. You might also use clip art or pictures cut from magazines.

Tip: Did you know you can make your own stickers with Aunt Annie's recipe for Seal Gum? Also, check out the Sticker Fun craft project for more printable sticker sheets and instructions for designing your own stickers.

Step 7: Snip

Carefully cut the sticker in half where the two halves of the gift tag meet. Refold the tag and attach the tag to your gift with tape or glue. You could also punch a hole for string or ribbon to tie the tag to your present.

Tip: For Valentine's Day, make the tag with a heart sticker. Write your surprise message on the inside and seal the tag shut with the sticker. Only partially cut the sticker, so the tag remains closed until you give the gift to your loved one.
