Woven Suede Bracelet DIY

Wear your creativity with a woven suede bracelet!
Bracelets made of woven suede leather
What you will make:

See how to make a bracelet by weaving narrow strips of suede into a suede leather band. It only takes scraps of suede in two contrasting colors to create this soft bracelet.  Make one to coordinate with a special outfit or to give as a gift to a friend. You can also use the wider templates to make wrist cuffs.

Related craft: Make a necklace to go with your bracelet. See how in the Suede Leather Pendant craft project.

Related craft: For a bracelet that is easier to make and decorated with motifs, see the Suede Leather Bracelets craft project.

Here's what you need:
  • Computer paper or cardstock
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Heavy-duty craft scissors or  leather snipers

How to Make Woven Suede Leather Bracelets

Read all of the steps before starting.
Step 1: Download and Print Pattern

Download and print a pattern with bracelet / cuff templates. There is one pattern sheet with a variety of bracelet styles and widths, and another with wider templates for making cuffs.

Tip: The bracelets can be made without a pattern. Just cut a suede leather band 1" to 1½" wide and long enough to wrap around your wrist with a ½" to ¾" overlap.

Patterns are Adobe PDF files. The Adobe Reader is available for free.

All of Aunt Annie's project patterns are designed to be printed on standard letter-size paper (8.5"x11" or A4). When printing from Adobe Reader, you may need to select Auto-Rotate and Center or Choose paper source by PDF page size to ensure the best fit.

Step 2: Cut Pattern

Cut out the bracelet pattern of your choice.

Tip: For more permanent and reusable patterns, print or trace the patterns onto cardstock or lightweight cardboard.

Step 3: Trace Pattern
Trace bracelet patterns

Place the bracelet pattern on your piece of suede leather. Hold the pattern down with one hand and trace around it carefully with a ballpoint pen.

Step 4: Cut Leather Band
Cut leather

Using a pair of heavy-duty craft scissors, cut out the bracelet inside the ink lines. Leather snipers or a craft knife and cutting mat can also be used. Adult supervision is required when using a craft knife.

Tip: Adjust the length of the suede bracelet strip to fit your wrist!

Step 5: Velcro Fastener
Glue Velcro fasteneres

If you are using a strip of Velcro, cut off a piece about 1/2" (1.5 cm) long.

With the bracelet right-side-up, glue the hook piece of the Velcro fastener near a square end of the bracelet. Turn the bracelet over and glue the loop piece of Velcro near the opposite end. Use a toothpick or other disposable object to spread the glue. Do not get the glue on your fingers.

Button alternative: You can make a button closure for your suede bracelet instead of using Velcro. See how in the Suede Leather Bracelets craft project.

Tip: Children should use tacky glue or be supervised closely by an adult when using contact cement.

Tip: Do not stick the Velcro together until the glue has set according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 6: Prepare for Weaving

Lay the bracelet band flat on a cutting mat. Using a craft knife and ruler, cut the center 3" of the bracelet into five even strips, each about ¼" wide. For weaving into the band, cut one or more ¼" wide strips of suede in a contrasting color.

Step 7: Weave

Weave the contrasting color strips into the bracelet. For the first row, leave a short tail, then weave over, under, over, under, over. For the next row, go back the other direction, but this time weave under, over, under, over, under. Repeat until the bracelet's center is full. If needed, use additional strips of contrasting suede—always starting at an edge and leaving tails.

Adjust and smooth the strips, make neat edges and remove any twists. Wrap the tails around to the back, snip them to about ¼" to ½", and glue them to the back of the bracelet.

That's it. Your bracelet is done!
