Make takeout-style gift boxes and party favors with printable patterns. The familiar takeout box has a rectangular base, four trapezoidal sides that flare upward, and an interlocking top closure. Traditional versions also feature diagonal corner gussets. For easier assembly, both plain and printed gusset versions of the Takeout Box pattern are included. The printed gusset version adds diagonal fold lines for a more traditional appearance, while the plain version is ideal for decorative or patterned papers.
All patterns print on Letter/A4 cardstock. Print on white or colored cardstock, or on the reverse side of decorative cardstock to create boxes for gifts, favors, and seasonal displays.
| Box Name | Dimensions | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Takeout Box (Plain) | 2½"x1¾"x2¼" | Decorative or patterned papers for easy themed packaging |
| Large Takeout Box | 3¾"x1½"x2" | Larger gifts, treats, and party favors |
| Takeout Box (Printed Gussets) | 2½"x1¾"x2¼" | Plain cardstock and a traditional appearance |
Each pattern is a PDF file that prints on standard Letter/A4 paper.
The printed gusset version assembles exactly the same as the plain Takeout Box pattern.
Choose a Takeout Box pattern and print it on Letter/A4 cardstock. Print on white or colored cardstock, or on the reverse side of decorative cardstock for a finished exterior.
Tip: For a sturdier box, print the pattern on paper and transfer it to Bristol board or similar flexible poster board.
Optionally glue decorative paper to the reverse side of the cardstock before cutting out the box pattern.
Cut out all pattern pieces on the solid lines. The two larger pattern pieces form the box sides, and the separate rectangle forms the box bottom. Use a craft knife to cut the slit marked on one lid flap.
Tip: Smooth, accurate cuts make the finished box easier to assemble and create cleaner edges.
Score each straight fold line using a ruler and either a bone folder or an empty ballpoint pen.
Tip: For heavier materials, make a shallow half-cut instead of an embossed score.
Fold each scored line and crease sharply with your thumbnail or a bone folder.
Glue the side tabs to assemble the box. Fold the bottom tabs inward, apply glue, and attach the bottom piece. Allow the glue to dry completely before filling the box.
Fill the Takeout Box with treats, small gifts, or party favors. To close the box, fold the two smaller flaps inward. Next fold over the slotted flap, then fold over the remaining flap and slip its circle tab into the slot. You can seal the box with a sticker or tie a ribbon around the box.
Tip: Add tissue paper or paper shred to cushion gifts and create an attractive presentation.
